Lyrical in its rhythm, Epiphany is the acknowledgment of a constant yet ever changing process. The natural cycle of earth is perpetual change, celebrating regeneration and hope.  

the phoenix rises, the fertile bulb embeds its roots while proffering the seeds of life transported by the phoenix in search of new horizons. The eternal flame illuminates the whole.

The base is black walnut, selected from the crotch of a branch, sliced on a bandsaw, finely sanded and polished to enhance the deep luminous grain and outer strata. The light cream-colored sapwood underlies the contrasted rough-edged bark.

From the same black walnut, choice curved branches are sliced and shaped to create intersecting circles. This bulb or flower forms a sacred place. Flanked by open, pointed and upward reaching branches, the flames embrace the inner soul. The dual medley contains a vignette of birds soaring upward on the strings of a harp or lute. Again a duet, both in numbers and the mirrored images found in the crotch of the dogwood branch. A rough short staccato cut for a tail, with smooth legato shaped wingspans, orchestrates the ancient phoenix. The dogwood, a very illustrative wood is lighter in color and in weight and allows the shapes to take flight with hopes, desires and dreams. The chords guide the ascension of flight, the ever-challenging task of life.
